What Services do they offer?
An extended school works with the local authority and other partners to offer access to a range of services and activities which support and motivate children and young people to achieve their full potential. These services and activities include:
- A varied menu of activities combined with childcare in primary schools for example after school clubs, holiday clubs etc
- Community access to school facilities
- Swift and easy access (referral) to targeted and specialist services
- Parenting support – encouraging schools to help parents help their children at home and offering parenting support classes.
Many schools are already providing these ‘extended services’ and others are developing them. However, not every school will provide all of these services and activities on its site but access to them has been arranged through clusters of local schools and other providers who will be able to ‘signpost’ pupils and parents. By 2010 all schools will offer extended services
What is happening around Penrith?
In the Penrith area, schools are working together in groups or clusters to ensure that extended services and activities reach everyone.
This website shows some of the extended services and activities that are already provided by the Penrith Schools Cluster. We have a directory of useful contacts such as activity providers and sources of advice which will be helpful for parents, carers, children and young people.
